UK mission warns jobseekers over visa scams
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the British mission advised prospective migrants not to pay money to individuals or agencies offering overseas jobs through so-called 'package deals'
The British High Commission in Bangladesh has urged jobseekers to be cautious of visa and recruitment scams, warning that fraudsters are increasingly targeting people seeking employment opportunities abroad.
In a post published on its official Facebook page on Thursday, the British mission advised prospective migrants not to pay money to individuals or agencies offering overseas jobs through so-called "package deals".
The High Commission stressed that genuine employers do not charge candidates for recruitment or employment opportunities.
"No legitimate employer will ever ask you to pay to be recruited. If someone offers you a 'package deal', it's a scam. Stay alert!" the mission said.
The warning comes amid ongoing concerns over fraudulent recruitment schemes that promise jobs and visas abroad in exchange for large sums of money. Many victims are reportedly approached through social media platforms and online advertisements.
The British High Commission regularly issues guidance on visa procedures and encourages applicants to rely on official sources when seeking information about employment and migration opportunities.
Bangladesh has also stepped up efforts to combat irregular migration and recruitment fraud through stricter monitoring of agencies and awareness campaigns aimed at protecting aspiring migrant workers from exploitation.
