The government has launched free Wi-Fi service at Saidpur Airport as part of a broader initiative to improve public services and expand digital connectivity across Bangladesh.

The service was officially inaugurated on Monday by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during a brief stopover at Saidpur Airport while returning to Dhaka after a visit to Dinajpur, reports BSS.

According to the PM’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibly, the inauguration was conducted by scanning a QR code to activate the Wi-Fi service at the airport.

He said the initiative is part of the government’s plan to gradually introduce free internet services at all airports and other key public locations across the country.

“The move aligns with the government’s electoral commitment to provide free public internet access in major public spaces. Under this programme, passengers and visitors will be able to use the internet free of charge at railway stations, airports, and other high-traffic areas,” he added.

Free Wi-Fi services have already been introduced at several locations, including airports in Cox’s Bazar and Rajshahi, as well as railway stations in Dhaka Airport and Cox’s Bazar.

Officials said the initiative will enable people to easily access information, communicate online, and manage travel-related tasks more efficiently.

The government is expanding such digital services nationwide as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen connectivity and enhance public convenience.
