Free Wi-Fi set to expand across key airports
Work is underway to make the facility operational as soon as possible
The government has moved to introduce free Wi-Fi services across the country’s major airports, as part of a broader effort to improve passenger experience and modernise aviation facilities.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said the directive has already been issued to ensure complimentary internet access at key airports, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Shah Amanat International Airport, and Osmani International Airport. The facility has also been extended to Saidpur Airport.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, the minister said the initiative aligns with international standards and aims to ease travel for both domestic and international passengers.
“Instructions have been given to ensure that all major airports provide free Wi-Fi services, similar to those in developed countries,” he said.
The announcement comes alongside ongoing efforts to operationalise the long-awaited third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Authorities say the new terminal is essential to manage rising air traffic, particularly the growing number of inbound passengers. Work is underway to make the facility operational as soon as possible.
In addition to aviation upgrades, the government is also expanding connectivity in public transport, with plans to introduce free internet services on selected trains.
Officials say these measures are part of a wider push to enhance infrastructure, improve service delivery, and strengthen Bangladesh’s position as a regional travel hub.
