Vomiting passenger jumps from moving plane in Chennai
The incident involved a Sharjah–Chennai flight operated by Air Arabia, which had just landed and was moving slowly
Panic broke out at Chennai International Airport early on Sunday when a passenger opened an emergency exit and jumped from a taxiing aircraft shortly after landing.
The incident involved a Sharjah–Chennai flight operated by Air Arabia, which had just landed and was moving slowly along a taxiway after exiting the main runway, *NDTV* reported. According to airport officials, the aircraft had not yet come to a complete halt when the male passenger suddenly opened the emergency door and leapt onto the tarmac, triggering panic among fellow travellers.
A senior airport official confirmed that the aircraft was still in motion at the time of the incident but emphasised that there were no injuries or damage to the plane. The official also clarified that the episode did not occur on the main runway.
Preliminary findings suggest the passenger had been unwell during the flight. Officials said he complained of nausea and is believed to have vomited twice on board, which may have contributed to his actions.
The pilot immediately alerted ground authorities, prompting a swift response from security personnel. Members of India’s Central Industrial Security Force quickly secured the individual and later handed him over to police for further investigation.
The incident briefly disrupted airport operations, with the main runway closed for about an hour as a precaution. Flights were temporarily diverted to a secondary runway during this period.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the breach of aviation safety protocols, while officials continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
