A special flight operated by Qatar Airways returned 430 Bangladeshi nationals who had been stranded in Qatar after flight suspensions due to the Iran-Israel conflict that disrupted air travel across the Middle East.

The flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:10pm on Friday, according to the airport’s Executive Director Group Captain Ragib Samad, reports BSS.

He said the passengers included Bangladeshi travellers who had been stuck in transit as well as officials from the Bangladeshi embassy who were unable to continue their journeys due to widespread flight cancellations.

“Since they could not return because of the suspension of flights, the Bangladesh government arranged this special flight in coordination with the Qatari authorities to bring them home safely,” he said.

Air travel across parts of the Middle East has been severely affected following airspace closures triggered by escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.

Airport authorities said the disruption has had a major impact on operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, where more than 390 flights have been cancelled since 28 February due to the ongoing regional crisis affecting international air routes.
