Maldivian, the national carrier of the Maldives, has inaugurated its Dhaka office and announced the resumption of direct flights between Malé and Dhaka from 12 March, strengthening air connectivity between the two South Asian countries.

Maldivian Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas formally inaugurated the office located on the second floor of Taj Marriott at 25 Gulshan Avenue on Monday morning, says a press release.

Director of Ground Operations Ahmed Ibrahim and General Manager Commercial (International) Mohamed Saffah, among others, attended the ceremony, alongside Ahmed Yusuf Walid, President and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Bangladesh Group, the airline’s General Sales Agent (GSA) in Bangladesh.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ibrahim Iyas said the resumption of the route reflects the airline’s commitment to serving the large Bangladeshi expatriate community in the Maldives. “Dhaka is a key market for Maldivian. This reopening underscores our dedication to providing reliable, affordable and convenient travel options for Bangladeshi workers and Maldivian travellers alike”, he said.

The twice-weekly service will operate on Sundays and Thursdays, with return fares starting from $399 (approximately Tk 47,880). Flights are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka in the early morning, allowing convenient connections to other international destinations.

During their visit, the Maldivian delegation paid courtesy calls on the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines
