The government has withdrawn all restrictions, including rationing, on the distribution of fuel oil on Sunday, apparently in a bid to ensure smooth travel during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays and support key sectors of the economy, says a press release.

According to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division press release, the earlier restrictions were introduced to manage fuel supplies after disruptions in global energy routes triggered by the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.

Officials said the situation has begun to improve as several imported oil tankers have already arrived at Chattogram Port, easing pressure on the supply chain.

With millions of people expected to travel across the country for the Eid holidays, authorities said lifting the restrictions will help maintain uninterrupted transport services and facilitate tourism activities during the peak travel period.

Popular tourist destinations such as Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati and Bandarban typically see a surge of visitors during the Eid break.

The government said the decision, effective from 15 March 2026, allows fuel to be supplied according to demand from all distribution points across the country until further notice.

Officials added that the move will ensure uninterrupted fuel availability for transport, tourism and agriculture during the busy festive and farming season.
