Actor Don arrested at Dhaka airport
CID team takes custody of Don Haque from immigration police on Sunday as the Salman Shah murder case gains new momentum.

Police have arrested actor Mohammad Ashraful Haque Don, who is better known for playing villainous roles in Bangla flicks, in connection with the murder case of cine sensation Salman Shah in Bangladesh.

Don was detained while trying to leave for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

Kamrul Hasan Talukder, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Airport Police Station, confirmed the information to media on Sunday afternoon.

He said immigration police arrested Don from the airport. Later, a team from the CID took him into custody. A case is currently ongoing with the CID, and they are investigating the man who is popular for his bad-guy roles in Bangla films.

Salman Shah, one of the most popular actors in Bangladesh, died on 6 September 1996 at his residence in Eskaton, Dhaka. His death has remained a subject of controversy for years, with several agencies investigating the circumstances surrounding it.

Twenty-nine years after Salman Shah’s death, the court last year ordered the case to be prosecuted as a murder case. Jannatul Ferdous Ibne Haque, the Sixth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, issued the order.

According to old records, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) had long investigated the mystery surrounding Salman Shah’s death, with multiple investigation agencies handling the case over time. The agency submitted a report stating that Salman Shah’s death was a suicide. However, his family and fans refused to accept that conclusion.

Following this, on 21 October 2025, Salman Shah’s maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, filed a murder case at Ramna Police Station in the capital. The case named 11 people as accused, including his ex-wife Samira Haque and villain-role actor Don Haque. Although speculation about the true cause of his death had persisted for a long time, no effective steps were taken to investigate.

The CID is currently investigating the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana sent the accused to jail after police produced him before the court, seeking his confinement in jail, a sub-inspector working in the court told media.
