Amid escalating conflict in the Middle East following retaliatory Iranian strikes, a total of 54 international flights to and from Bangladesh remained suspended until Sunday noon, while US-Bangla Airlines announced resumption of scheduled services to Saudi Arabia and Oman.

According to airport authorities at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport, all international arrival and departure flights to Middle-Eastern destinations were cancelled on Sunday morning. Seven arrival flights and three departure flights scheduled for the region were declared suspended.

Similar disruptions affected operations at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, though the total count of 54 suspended flights encompasses both arrival and departure services across all Bangladeshi airports.

According to a Business Standard report, in a welcome development for stranded passengers, US-Bangla Airlines confirmed that its flights to Riyadh and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Muscat in Oman would operate as per regular schedule from Sunday.

The private carrier issued a press release requesting passengers travelling on these routes to arrive at the airport at least four hours before departure and collect boarding passes from designated check-in counters.

However, considering the "overall situation" in the Middle East, US-Bangla has suspended flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates as well as Doha in Qatar. The airline authorities stated they will contact affected passengers once flight operations to the UAE and Qatar reopen.

Regional Context

Flight disruptions follow Iranian retaliatory strikes that damaged Dubai International Airport, injuring four airport staff and forcing closure of one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs. Multiple Gulf states, including the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain, temporarily closed their airspace, prompting airlines worldwide to cancel, reroute or suspend services as a precautionary measure.

Passenger Advisory

For flight-related information, passengers have been advised to contact US-Bangla Airlines' hotline on 13605 or 01777777800-806. Airport authorities urge travelers to verify flight status with respective airlines before proceeding to airports as the situation remains unstable.
