14 killed in Saudi Aramco helicopter crash
The helicopter went down at around 6:00 am local time (0300 GMT) in the Ras Tanura area, west of the Strait of Hormuz
Fourteen Saudi nationals were killed after a helicopter operated by Saudi oil giant Aramco crashed near Ras Tanura on the kingdom's eastern Gulf coast on Saturday morning, according to the Saudi state news agency.
The helicopter went down at around 6:00 am local time (0300 GMT) in the Ras Tanura area, west of the Strait of Hormuz. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the crash.
"The relevant authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the accident," the state news agency said.
Saudi Aramco did not immediately comment on the incident or respond to requests for information.
The crash came a day after Aramco resumed crude oil loadings at its Ras Tanura export terminal, following a suspension that had lasted nearly four months.
Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, has recently accelerated oil exports as regional energy producers increased shipments following an interim agreement aimed at halting the conflict between the United States and Iran.
Further details about the victims and the circumstances surrounding the crash have not yet been released.
