US Embassy warns travelers relying on public benefits

The United States Embassy in Dhaka has reminded prospective travellers to ensure they have sufficient financial resources to cover their expenses while visiting the United States, warning that relying on US taxpayer-funded public benefits could have lasting immigration consequences.

In an official social media post on August 3, the embassy advised travellers to be financially prepared for their trip, including unexpected travel disruptions and medical emergencies.

"If you're planning travel to the United States, make sure you have the financial means to pay your own way, including any travel disruptions or medical emergencies that could arise," the embassy said.

The mission also cautioned that misuse of public assistance funded by US taxpayers could affect future eligibility to enter the country.

"Abusing US taxpayer-funded benefits may have permanent consequences that make you ineligible to travel, study, or work in the United States in the future," the post added.

The advisory comes as US authorities continue to emphasise compliance with immigration and visa regulations, urging foreign visitors to demonstrate financial self-sufficiency during their stay and avoid actions that could jeopardise future visa applications.
