A moving private car caught fire on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive on Sunday morning, raising alarm along one of the country’s most popular tourist routes. All passengers managed to escape safely, preventing any casualties.

The incident occurred in the Bara Dail Marine Drive area of Teknaf around morning hours, reports Dhaka Post. According to the Teknaf Fire Service and Civil Defence, the vehicle was travelling from Shapla Chattar in Teknaf toward Cox’s Bazar with four passengers on board when it suddenly caught fire due to a suspected mechanical fault.

Fire Service Station Officer Jamin Mia said the fire spread quickly and engulfed the vehicle within moments. “The driver and all passengers immediately got out of the car, which helped avoid a major tragedy,” he said.

Eyewitnesses reported that locals initially tried to control the flames before fire service teams arrived. Later, two fire service units reached the spot and brought the fire under control, but the vehicle was completely burned.

Although no tourists were injured, the driver, identified as Fiar Alam, reportedly fell ill after the incident and was taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Officials said a mechanical malfunction is suspected to be the cause of the fire.

The incident briefly disrupted movement along the scenic Marine Drive, a key tourism route known for attracting thousands of domestic and international visitors every day.
