Govt moves to reopen four regional airports to boost domestic connectivity
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh has placed Bogura Airport at the top of its priority list, followed by Ishwardi, Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat
The government has announced plans to reopen four regional airports Bogura, Lalmonirhat, Thakurgaon and Ishwardi to strengthen domestic air connectivity and stimulate regional economic activity.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat disclosed the plan in parliament on Sunday during a session chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed. He said enhancing regional connectivity remains a top government priority, adding that initiatives are underway to bring the four airports back into operation in phases.
“The reopening of these airports will ease travel for people in the respective regions and significantly boost trade, commerce and tourism,” the minister said.
Officials noted that the move is part of a broader strategy to revitalise aviation infrastructure in northern Bangladesh and accelerate regional economic growth through improved transport links.Under the plan, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh has placed Bogura Airport at the top of its priority list, followed by Ishwardi, Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat.
The reopening of these long-closed airports is expected to enhance passenger mobility, support local industries and create new opportunities for tourism development across the northern region.
