Six held in Sajek over 'Joy Bangla' slogans

Police have detained six tourists in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati on allegations of chanting 'Joy Bangla' slogans while travelling to the Sajek tourism centre. They were detained from the Baghaihat Bazar area around 1pm on Friday.

The detainees are Md Fardin Ehman Hridoy (24) and Mohammad Yasin (32) of Brahmanbaria; Sushanta Pal (23), Harun Islam Tushar (26) and Riaz Uddin (23) of Habiganj; and Saiful Islam (27) of Patuakhali.

Tofazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sajek police station, said the tourists chanted slogans of 'Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu' and 'Sheikh Hasina’s government, needed again and again' at around 10:45am while heading to Sajek.

After local residents reported the matter, police intercepted and detained them at around 1pm.

During preliminary quizzing, they admitted to chanting the slogans but claimed they are not affiliated with any political party, the OC said. He said the process of taking further legal action in the incident is underway.
