Lakeshore MD trashes fraud allegations over ownership

Amid escalating family discord over the ownership and control of Lakeshore Hotel, Managing Director Kazi Tareq Shams and his mother, Kazi Momtaz Shirin, have come forward to refute allegations of fraud and forgery levelled by other family members.

At a press conference hosted at the property at Gulshan-2 on Thursday afternoon, they dismissed the claims as baseless and motivated, while accusing certain relatives of conspiring to tarnish Tareq Shams’ reputation and seize control of the business through false cases and intimidation.

Addressing the media, Kazi Momtaz Shirin, mother of Tareq Shams, stated that the hotel was established by her younger son, Tareq Shams. She claimed that the land on which the hotel stands belongs to her, and that both she and Tareq jointly manage the business.

At one point, she explained, Tareq transferred his one-percent share in the company to his father, Kazi Shamsul Haque. Later, she added, Kazi Haque returned that one-percent share to Tareq through due legal process and in her presence. She asserted that the transaction was carried out willingly and without any coercion.

Kazi Shirin further dismissed the claims made by her other son, Kazi Ashfaq Shams, as false and baseless.

She has taken a stand in favour of Tareq Shams in a live video message and has said that she will file a case against Kazi Ashfaq even though she is a mother.

Shirin has said that all the allegations of signature forgery, share embezzlement and fraud brought against Tareq Shams are completely baseless and motivated.

Tareq Shams claimed that the documents, bank documents and the neutral forensic report of the CID are visually proving that all the allegations of embezzlement, fraud and signature fraud are just a fictious story made by his greedy relatives. Despite fair distribution of family property, this desperate attempt to make a successful brother destitute and criminal blinded by extreme greed has tarnished his reputation in society.

Kazi Ashfaq is the chairman of the five-star hotel ‘Six Seasons’ and he is the MD of this hotel and owns 50% of the shares. Despite this, Kazi Ashfaq has been using muscle power to prevent Kazi Tarek Shams from entering ‘Six Seasons’ for last 14 years, he added. Another half-brother, Kazi Ehsanul Haque, has stood by the truth and sided with him instead of joining the conspirators.

Tareq Shams also claimed his half-sister Farzana and her husband, Kazi Rashedul Haque and Kazi Ashfaq, filed a case against him at Tejgaon Police Station, alleging that Tareq Shams had forged his father’s signature and transferred 1% of the shares and property in his own name.

He told the media that in 2023, they took legal action to declare their parents as ‘mentally unbalanced or insane’. The main role in this process is played by a former employee named Masud, who is a person who has been fired or left from this organisation and is involved in inciting the complainants, spreading false information and trying to become a royal witness.

He also cited that the original owner of the land on which Lakeshore is built is Tareq Shams' mother, who is strongly in favour of his son. Tareq Shams’ father owned 1% of the company’s shares and has been suffering from old age-related diseases since 2023, but the share transfer incident took place in 2021 when he was completely healthy and normal.

The only surviving uncle of the family, Kazi Habibul Haque, who is a former CSP officer, has taken a stand in favour of Tareq Shams.

Highlighting the immoral activities of the opposition relatives, Tareq Shams said the relatives had earlier appealed to the court to demand him and his father “mentally unbalanced” or “madman”, but the court heard their statements in person and declared the two completely healthy.

Later, the High Court ordered that the police should be taken with the help of the police to meet him, but in violation of that order, the defendants forcibly entered the house on 20 July 2026 and showed great pressure and intimidation to write the property in their own name.

In the wake of this continuous torture and insecurity, Kazi Shirin recently lodged a general diary against them. Talking about the contribution of himself and his family, Tareq Shams said despite being the youngest member of the family, he has been running ‘Lakeshore’ for long. During this period, he has also paid for his brothers and sisters, as well as the overall cost of higher education of his nephews. All the necessary evidence is preserved.

According to him, as a father and younger brother, who gave all their own to the family and laid a strong foundation, they are facing false cases, conspiracy and extreme depreciation. This is the main appeal that no father or brother can repeat again.
