Modern printmaking art show opens at Galleri Kaya
The exhibition presents a remarkable collection of 82 art works
Galleri Kaya has hosted a group art exhibition styled 'Art Democratic', featuring a curated selection of works by 14 distinguished modern and contemporary artists from Bangladesh and India. The exhibition was unveiled on Friday evening on the premises of Galleri Kaya at Uttara.
Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, an eminent economist and former adviser, inaugured the event, with renowned artist Hashem Khan, attended as the guest of honour.
Prof Wahiduddin said Bangladesh has witnessed a steady rise in the number of artists, the domestic art market has failed to keep pace with this growth. He observed that the commercial infrastructure and collector base for art remain underdeveloped in the country. This persistent gap between artistic output and market demand poses a serious challenge to the sustainability of the creative sector.
Artist Goutam Chakraborty, founder of Galleri Kaya, said this exhibition was a selection of works from eminent artists from Bangladesh and the neighbouring India.
The exhibition presents a remarkable collection of 82 works on paper, employing diverse printmaking techniques including lithograph, etching, aquatint, woodcut, serigraph, mezzotint and wood engraving.
The exhibition bridges generations and styles, featuring works by legendary Indian artists such as M F Husain, KG Subramanyan, Ramkinkar Baij, Sanat Kar, Ajit Seal and Jogen Chowdhury, alongside acclaimed Bangladeshi artists like Rafiqun Nabi, Shahabuddin Ahmed, Kalidas Karmakar, Mahmudul Haque, Nitun Kundu, Anisuzzamn, Kamruzzaman Sagar, Nagarbasi Barman.
Art enthusiasts and collectors will have the opportunity to experience this diverse display daily from 11:30am to 8:00pm until August 31. The exhibition is sponsored by ADN Group.
Galleri Kaya, opened in 2004, has so far hosted more than 160 exhibitions along with numerous art trips, camps and workshops.
