Women’s art exhibition opens at Edge Gallery

A group art exhibition featuring paint-and-brush works by 23 female artists styled ‘Lobongolotika’ launched at Edge Galley in the capital’s posh neighbourhood of Gulshan-2 on Friday evening. This exhibition features celebration of feminine strength, resilience and creative empowerment.

Samina Lutfa, fine art professor of Dhaka University, Rupali Chowdhury, managing director of Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd, and Mohua Khan, Trustee, Edge the Foundation, delivered their speeched at the opening ceremony.

The exhibition ‘Lobongolotika’ was inspired by a traditional confection where sweet folds are held together by the sharp bite of a clove, beautifully captures the duality of the feminine spirit. 

Featuring works across painting, sketch, tapestry, sculpture and installation, the exhibition brings together artists from various generations and backgrounds. Their pieces generate a geography of freedom, capturing desires, laughter and the fierce power of autonomy.

Spanning generations and backgrounds, the artists are Bipasha Hayat, Farida Zaman, Israt Jahan Proma, Ivy Zaman, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Kuhu Plamondon, Lekh Nesa Khatun, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa, Mukti Bhowmik, Nargis Poly, Nur Munjerin Rimjhim, Rokeya Sultana, Shakirun Nahar Kanon, Sharmin Akter Lina, Sheikh Farhana Parvin Tumpa, Sigma Haque Angkan, Sima Mondal, Suborna Morsheada, Suriyea Rahman, Tanjim Jahan Laz, Tarana Halim, Tulsi Rani Das and Vinita Karim. 

The exhibition brings together 63 artworks exploring a variety of subjects, including portraits, rural life and landscapes. Through their individual artistic approaches, the participating artists present diverse perspectives on people, nature and everyday life.

An artwork of Farida Zaman 

Artist Farida Zaman has portrayed a fishing net and a character named Sufia in her canvas, drawing attention to familiar elements of everyday life. Her work brings together human presence and symbolic objects to create a narrative rooted in ordinary experiences.
Through her distinctive visual language, Zaman explores themes of community, livelihood and human emotions. The composition reflects her interest in depicting people and their surroundings with simplicity and expressive detail.

An artwork of Kanak Chapa Chakma

Artist Kanak Chapa Chakma has portrayed the everyday life and cultural landscape of the hill people through her evocative paintings. Her works feature portraits, traditional homes in the hill tracts and glimpses of the community’s daily life, reflecting a close connection between people and their natural surroundings.

An artwork of Vinita Karim 

Vinita Karim has used vibrant colours, bold forms and intricate patterns to create a lively visual composition. Her painting presents a colourful riverside setting, where numerous boats and watercraft appear against a densely patterned settlement under a dramatic evening sky.

The warm hues of red, orange and golden yellow in the sky contrast with the cool blues and turquoise tones of the water. Decorative geometric motifs and rhythmic forms give boats and buildings a distinctive character, creating a sense of movement and visual harmony. The work transforms an everyday riverside scene into a vibrant, stylised interpretation of life, colours and landscape.

The exhibition is open to all until 4 September 2026, with visiting hours from 10 am to 10 pm daily.
