CAAB firefighters complete special rescue training

Fifteen firefighters of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) have completed a 60-day specialised training course aimed at strengthening fire safety at the country’s airports and improving awareness for aircraft accidents and other emergencies.

Certificates were awarded to the successful trainees at the closing ceremony of the Crash Fire and Rescue (CFR) Initial Course No. 5 at the Civil Aviation Academy in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The training course began on 10 June and concluded on 1 September. It was designed to develop skilled personnel capable of ensuring airport fire safety and responding effectively to aircraft accidents and emergency situations.

The 15 participants, all serving in CAAB’s Fire Division, received intensive theoretical and practical training in various aspects of aviation firefighting. The training included firefighting drills at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, operation of firefighting vehicles and other emergency response techniques.

Through the training, the participants are expected to play a more effective role in ensuring airport fire safety and responding to emergencies arising from aircraft accidents in accordance with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).\

Speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony, Civil Aviation Academy Director Prashanta Kumar Chakraborty said the true success of the training would depend on ensuring adequate fire protection facilities at all airports across the country.

CAAB Director (Fire) Md Rafiqul Islam, who attended the event as a special guest, said the trained personnel would play a leading role in operating airports in line with ICAO standards and implementing Airport Emergency Plans.

Deputy Director (ATM) Md Majibur Rahman Miaji and Deputy Director (Design Standards and AGA) Md Abdul Latif were also present at the ceremony.

The training was organised as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen fire safety at Bangladesh’s airports in line with the ICAO Global Aviation Emergency Plan.

CAAB said the practical and theoretical knowledge achieved through the course would enhance the capacity of its firefighting personnel to respond to airport fires, aircraft accidents and other emergency situations.
