Sajek Valley shut amid rain-driven landslide fears

The Rangamati district administration has temporarily closed the breathtakingly beautiful Sajek Valley to tourists and visitors following continuous heavy rainfall, heightened landslide risks and disruption to road communication in the hill district.

The decision was announced on Tuesday evening through an emergency public notice signed by Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi.

Under the directive, all tourist attractions, waterfalls, hill trails and other remote and high-risk areas in Sajek Valley will remain off-limits to tourists, tour operators and the general public until further notice.

According to the district administration, the decision was taken after reviewing the latest weather forecasts issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the Storm Warning Centre at Agargaon, alongside the deteriorating ground situation caused by persistent rainfall in Rangamati.

Officials said recent downpours have increased the risk of landslides, triggered transport disruptions and created hazardous conditions across the hilly region, making the temporary closure necessary to protect lives.

The administration has urged residents and visitors to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas and strictly follow official instructions until the weather improves and the restrictions are lifted.
