Dr Saimum Parvez, a renowed academic and policy expert with a vast international experience, has been appointed as the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Environment, Forest and Climate Change with the status of a state minister.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification in this regard on April 22, stating that he will assume responsibilities immediately under the Rules of Business. He will enjoy the rank, salary, allowances and other benefits of a state minister.

Dr Saimum is widely known for his work in climate policy, environmental governance and sustainable development. He has served in several global institutions and has been engaged in research and policy advisory roles related to climate change, environmental protection and green transition.

Prior to this appointment, Dr Saimum also served as a special assistant to the BNP chairperson on foreign affairs. He was the coordinator of the Environment and Blue Economy Core Group under the BNP Policy Team, contributing to policy formulation in climate and sustainability sectors.

Officials said his appointment reflects increasing national emphasis on climate change, climate finance, adaptation and just transition policies, as Bangladesh seeks to strengthen its position in global climate negotiations.

Dr Saimum’s experience in research, diplomacy and policy development is expected to support the government’s efforts in advancing climate justice and building long-term environmental resilience.
