JAL renews Embraer support deal for E-Jet fleet

Japan Airlines (JAL) has renewed its Pool Program agreement with Brazilian plane-maker Embraer, extending maintenance, repair and spare-parts support for its fleet of 32 E170 and E190 jets, Embraer said on Monday.

The multi-year agreement covers a wide range of repairable components for the airline’s E-Jets, Embraer said in a press release. 

It also includes a large inventory of parts held close to the airline’s operations to ensure quick access and minimise disruption. The companies did not disclose the financial terms or duration of the contract.

According to Embraer, the E-Jets have been part of the fleet of J-Air, which operates regional services in Japan, since 2008. The company said the fleet’s six-month average service reliability stands at 99.8 percent.

Yuta Kawaguchi, executive officer and vice president of JAL Engineering Co Ltd’s Material & Component Services unit, said the renewal reinforces the airline’s commitment to securing high-quality components and ensuring ‘absolute safety of our flight operations.’

Carlos Naufel, president and CEO of Embraer Services & Support, said the company was pleased to strengthen its long-standing relationship with JAL. He said the Pool Program is designed to provide the reliability and responsiveness needed to maximise the performance of the E-Jets.

Embraer said it has operated in the Asia-Pacific region for nearly five decades, since the first of its aircraft entered service there in 1978. More than 15 airlines across seven countries in the region currently operate E-Jets, it said, making the region one of the company’s most important markets.

To support those customers, Embraer said it has built a regional network that includes staff based near customers, a distribution centre holding more than US$120 million in inventory, E1 and E2 simulators, and authorised service centres.

JAL, founded in 1951 as Japan’s first private airline, is a member of the oneworld alliance. It operated a fleet of 234 aircraft as of March 2026, serving 413 airports in 71 countries and regions with group and partner airlines, according to Embraer’s release.

Embraer, headquartered in Brazil, has delivered more than 9,000 aircraft since its founding in 1969.
