Afroza Rita Becomes New Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister

Afroza Khanam Rita, the newly elected Member of Parliament from Manikganj-3 (Sadar and Saturia), has been sworn in as Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, marking a significant political milestone for the constituency.
The oath-taking ceremony was held on Tuesday afternoon at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Rita is the first female MP elected from Manikganj-3 since Bangladesh’s independence. She secured the seat with 167,345 votes in the recent parliamentary election.
A prominent leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), she serves as a member of the party’s Chairperson’s Advisory Council and is the convener of the district BNP. Her appointment has generated enthusiasm among party leaders and grassroots activists in Manikganj.
Rita began her political career in 2001, serving as chief election coordinator for her late father, Harunar Rashid Khan Monno, a four-time MP and former minister. She later contested the 2008 parliamentary election from Manikganj-2 and went on to become a member of the BNP National Executive Committee in 2010. In 2013, she assumed leadership of the district BNP.
Beyond politics, Rita is the Chairperson of Monno Group of Industries, reflecting her leadership experience in the private sector.
Party leaders described her elevation to the cabinet as a major achievement for the district, underscoring her long-standing commitment to party organisation and national politics.
