Authorities have seized about 18 kilograms of gold from a Dubai-bound flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday midnight, officials said.
The gold-153 bars weighing a total of 17.901 kilograms-was recovered from a concealed compartment inside a toilet panel in the cargo section of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-348) that arrived from Dubai on Saturday, reports Bangla Tribune.
Customs officials said the estimated market value of the seized gold is about Tk 38 crore.
The recovery occured following a tip-off, prompting security and intelligence agencies to place the aircraft under close surveillance immediately after landing.
With support from aviation security (AVSEC), authorities conducted a detailed search of the cargo area, where the gold bars were found wrapped in white cloth and hidden inside the toilet structure.
