Visit Chandichhara for tea, hills, quiet escapes

Greenery, fresh air, and the scent of freshly picked tea leaves await you on a short breakout. Chandichhara Tea Garden in Chunarughat, Habiganj, can be an ideal destination for a one-day trip.

Established in 1950, Chandichhara Tea Garden covers around 1,200 acres. The garden produces tea for the domestic market as well as for export.

The journey is particularly convenient for travellers from nearby areas. From Chunarughat town, the tea garden can be reached in around 20 to 30 minutes via College Road. CNG-run auto-rickshaws are available for around Tk 30-40 per person, while a reserved vehicle may cost Tk 200-300.

For a recent afternoon trip, we set off from Amuroad Bazar at around 3pm and reached the tea garden within half an hour.

As visitors enter the garden, the fresh, sweet aroma of tea leaves immediately draws their attention. Rows of tea bushes stretch across the undulating slopes, creating a picturesque landscape that is particularly mesmerising in the afternoon sunlight.

The surrounding greenery and tranquil environment make the garden a pleasant place to escape the bustle of clumsy life. Visitors can walk along the garden paths, enjoy the scenic beauty and take photographs while experiencing the distinctive atmosphere of a tea estate.

After exploring Chandichhara, visitors can head to nearby Ramganja, another popular spot in the area. A roadside shelter provides a comfortable place to sit and enjoy sip of tea while taking in the vivid green.

One of the main attractions of Ramganja is its special tea made with the aroma of fresh tea leaves. A cup costs only Tk 20, making it an inexpensive treat for visitors. Several small shops operate in the area, and it is hard to leave without trying a cup of tea.

The area becomes livelier in the afternoon as local residents, young people and visitors arrive to spend time together. The period from around 3pm to 8pm is considered the best time to visit, when the weather is relatively pleasant and the area turns on a lazy evening atmosphere.

Chandichhara and Ramganja offer a simple combination of nature, tea and leisure without requiring a long journey for solo travellers, friends, families or group.

As evening falls, visitors can enjoy a final cup of tea before returning home, taking with them memories of green hills, tea gardens and the unique aroma of freshly brewed tea.

A visit to Chandichhara is a reminder that a refreshing break does not always require travelling far. Sometimes, a quiet afternoon among the tea gardens of Chunarughat is enough to captivate the mind.
