PM to join Dhaka's 416th anniversary fest at Lalbagh Fort

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to attend the 'Hridoye Dhaka 416' festival at Lalbagh Fort on August 29 as part of celebrations marking the 416th anniversary of Dhaka and also Dhaka Day.
Dhaka South City Corporation administrator and valiant freedom fighter Md Abdus Salam announced the prime minister's participation at a press conference at Nagar Bhaban on August 13, reports state news agency BSS.
The August 29 programme will include children's dance performances, an exhibition showcasing innovations by young scientists, a display of books on Dhaka and stalls featuring traditional Old Dhaka cuisine. The prime minister is also expected to plant a tree and tour Lalbagh Fort.
The festival is part of a month-long programme organised by the city corporation highlighting the capital's history, heritage and culture.
The activities began with a Dhaka Heritage Cycle Rally on August 14 and a Heritage Run on August 15. Other events include a theatre festival, boat race, heritage cruise, old-film screenings, a traditional procession and cultural programmes.
Lalbagh Fort will also host a kite festival and cultural activities on August 30, while the month-long celebrations will conclude with a 'Panchayeti Adda' at Alamganj Jetty on September 5.
