A Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft flying from Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after circling in the air several times due to a technical problem.

No passengers or crew members were injured. The airport’s runway was closed for about half an hour in preparation for the emergency landing.

In a statement, Biman Bangladesh Airlines said flight BG-436 landed safely at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3:10pm on Saturday. The flight was delayed due to unavoidable operational and technical reasons. All passengers and crew members reached their destination safely, the airline said.

According to airport and air traffic control (ATC) sources, the aircraft, registered as S2-AKE, had departed Cox’s Bazar for Dhaka. Shortly after take-off, the pilot sent an emergency message to Dhaka Tower.

Before landing, the pilot had to circle in the air to reduce the aircraft’s fuel load and weight and allow the airport to complete the necessary safety preparations. Flight-tracking data showed that the aircraft circled several times over the Nagarpur and Delduar areas of Tangail. At the time, it was flying at an altitude of around 6,100 feet at a speed of 188 knots per hour.

As part of the emergency preparations, aircraft movements on the runway at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were temporarily suspended. According to information from Dhaka Tower, the runway remained closed from 3pm to 3:30pm Bangladesh time, during which all take-offs and landings were suspended.

Fire services, ambulances and other rescue and emergency response teams were kept ready on the runway to deal with the situation. The pilot subsequently landed the aircraft safely.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers by the delay and reiterated its commitment to maintaining passenger safety and operational standards.
