No decision has yet been made to change the name of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam (Rita) has said.

She made the statement during the question-and-answer session of the first sitting of Parliament on Tuesday afternoon.

During the session, Chattogram-3 Member of Parliament Sarwar Jamal Nizam asked: “Will the Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism kindly state whether there is any plan to rename Dhaka International Airport to its previous name, Zia International Airport? If so, what is it; if not, what is the reason?”

In response, Minister Afroza Khanam (Rita) said: “No decision has yet been made to change the name of the country’s main international airport in Dhaka back to Zia International Airport, as it was previously known.”

“According to the election manifesto, the government is focused on implementing various people-friendly programmes. A decision on changing the airport’s name might be made in the future following discussions with different stakeholders,” she added.
