Passengers aboard a US-Bangla Airlines flight bound for Chattogram were evacuated after the aircraft developed an engine fault while preparing for take-off at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred as the aircraft was taxiing towards the runway when a technical problem was detected in one of its engines, prompting the flight crew to halt the aircraft immediately.

According to airport sources, the flight was carrying around 70 passengers. Following the emergency, passengers were evacuated through the aircraft's emergency exits in line with standard safety procedures. Some passengers reportedly became anxious and rushed to leave the aircraft with their belongings.

Kamrul Islam, General Manager (Public Relations) of US-Bangla Airlines, said the cockpit's monitoring system detected a fire warning indication, prompting the pilots to stop the aircraft and immediately inform air traffic control.

"All necessary safety procedures were followed. The fault was identified before take-off, which helped prevent any major incident," he said.

The flight had been scheduled to depart Dhaka at 7:00 am but was delayed due to the technical issue. After the aircraft underwent the required safety checks and clearance procedures, the flight departed at around 8:00 am.

Airport authorities said passenger safety remained their top priority throughout the incident, adding that no injuries or casualties were reported.
