BATJA elects Safwan president, Emon secretary
The committee was announced unanimously at a meeting of the association's convening committee held at its temporary office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka on Monday

The Bangladesh Aviation and Tourism Journalists Association (BATJA) has formed an 11-member executive committee for the 2026–2027 term, with Alimuzzaman Safwan elected president and Emon Chowdhury general secretary.
The committee was announced unanimously at a meeting of the association's convening committee held at its temporary office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, on Monday.
Safwan, a reporter at Desh Television, will lead the organisation as president, while Emon Chowdhury, a reporter at Ekushey Television, has been elected general secretary.
The newly formed executive committee also includes Md Shahadat Hossain (Desh Samachar) as senior vice-president, Kazi Faisal (Channel 24) as vice-president, Jahangir Kabir (The Daily Ittefaq) as joint general secretary, Mehedi Hasan Murad (The Daily Inqilab) as organising secretary, Daud Hasan (Machranga Television) as office secretary, Tanzila Khan Mim (Ekhon Television) as treasurer, and SM Arefin (Somoy Television) as sports and cultural secretary.
The executive members are Ariful Islam (News Twenty Four Television) and Rashed Anis (Ekattor Television).
The association said the new committee would serve during the 2026–2027 term and work to strengthen professional standards among journalists covering Bangladesh's aviation and tourism sectors. Its priorities include improving access to information, organising training and research programmes, protecting journalists' professional rights, and enhancing coordination with relevant government and private sector organisations.
Speaking after his election, President Alimuzzaman Safwan said Bangladesh's aviation and tourism industries held significant economic potential, and BATJA would promote objective and responsible journalism highlighting the sectors' achievements, opportunities, challenges and issues of public interest.
General Secretary Emon Chowdhury said the association would work to establish BATJA as a professional and active organisation through regular training, seminars and workshops while strengthening cooperation with stakeholders to support the development of Bangladesh's aviation and tourism industries.
