Call for modernising Sylhet airport

Sylhet-5 lawmaker Mufti Mohammad Abul Hasan on Sunday said in parliament that the government should take immediate steps to modernise and upgrade Sylhet Osmani International Airport and ensure all necessary facilities for passengers and international travellers.

Raising the issue under Rule 71, the parliament member drew the attention of the House to the need for comprehensive development of the airport.

Mufti Abul Hasan said Sylhet airport is an important gateway to the Sylhet region and has particular significance because of the large number of expatriate Bangladeshis connected to the region. Therefore, modern facilities and efficient services at the airport are essential to meet the expectations of passengers and expatriate Bangladeshis.

The MP urged the government to undertake necessary initiatives to modernise the airport and ensure adequate passenger facilities.

The call comes amid growing expectations among people in Sylhet and expatriate communities for improved infrastructure and passenger services at the airport.

Mufti Abul Hasan said that a modern and fully equipped international airport would not only improve passenger convenience but also contribute to the wider economic and tourism potential of Sylhet.
