The government has called for collective efforts to strengthen the tourism sector as the country celebrated the Bengali New Year.

Speaking as the chief guest at a colourful New Year event organised by the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation in Agargaon on Tuesday, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita said the occasion is not only the beginning of a new year but also a time to reflect on national identity.

She urged all stakeholders to work together for the country’s development and emphasised the importance of unity in moving Bangladesh forward.

“With your support, I want to present our country to the world in a better way. This can only be achieved through the development of tourism,” she said.

The minister also called on people to love the country, uphold its culture and contribute to its progress.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Fahmida Akhtar attended the programme as a special guest, while Bangladesh Tourism Corporation Chairman Saima Shahin Sultana presided over the event.

Senior officials and employees from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Bangladesh Tourism Corporation and Bangladesh Tourism Board were also present.

The programme featured cultural performances and festive activities marking the spirit of the Bengali New Year.
