Expats to get two special flights on Dhaka-Bahrain route
The Bangladesh Embassy in Manama has requested Bangladeshis wishing to travel to Dhaka or return to Dammam via these flights to register through Google Forms
Gulf Air will operate two special return flights connecting Bahrain and Dhaka via Dammam on March 27 and April 3, according to a notification issued by the Bangladesh Embassy in Manama on Monday, as reported by The Daily Star.
The embassy has requested Bangladeshi nationals wishing to travel to Bangladesh or return to Bahrain via these flights to register through Google Forms. "Further instructions will be provided once the passenger capacity for the flights is reached," added the notification.
The special arrangements come as hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshi migrant workers in the Gulf region find themselves stranded due to the closure of airspace in several Middle Eastern countries. The disruptions follow the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran and subsequent Iranian retaliatory strikes on US bases and energy facilities across the Gulf. An estimated 6 million Bangladeshis are employed in Gulf nations.
Earlier, on March 20, a chartered Gulf Air flight brought 282 Bangladeshi nationals back to Dhaka from Bahrain via Dammam. On the same day, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines special flight from Baku, Azerbaijan, repatriated 186 Bangladeshis who had been evacuated from Iran. According to a foreign ministry statement, the evacuees crossed the Iran-Azerbaijan border by land before boarding the flight to Dhaka.
The evacuation was arranged by the Bangladesh government in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed told reporters on Tuesday that approximately 2,000 Bangladeshis, many of whom are students, are currently residing in Tehran. "They are all safe now. We will arrange evacuation if they feel unsafe. Our nationals' safety is our priority," she said. "Our missions are working round the clock to ensure their safety as well as repatriation or relocation — whatever is required."
