Bangladeshi student completes North Pole expedition 

Malehul Salehin Prottoy, a Class Ten student of Rajshahi Cadet College, has completed an international scientific expedition to the North Pole aboard Russia's nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy.

Prottoy was among students aged 14 to 16 from different countries who participated in Rosatom's seventh International Scientific and Educational Expedition, "Icebreaker of Knowledge". The 10-day expedition travelled from Murmansk to the North Pole and Franz Josef Land before returning to Murmansk, says a press release.

The voyage marked the 200th expedition by a surface vessel to reach the North Pole, according to the organisers.

During the expedition, participants took part in scientific activities covering areas including marine biology, nuclear physics and artificial intelligence. They also worked with scientists on experiments involving a radiosonde for communication in remote Arctic areas and a recoverable stratospheric platform.

The students also participated in a creative writing project with science fiction writer Sergey Lukyanenko, while a cultural programme was held at the North Pole.

Prottoy said the expedition allowed him to interact with students from 22 countries and gain exposure to different cultures and scientific disciplines.

The student has previously participated in international competitions in astronomy, astrophysics, mathematics, essay writing and artificial intelligence.

The Icebreaker of Knowledge project has brought more than 470 students from different countries to the Arctic and North Pole across seven editions.
