Bangladesh and China Tuesday have agreed to expand collaboration in different fields of sports, apparently to use sports diplomacy as a tool for international partnership, says a press release.

With an aim to expand cooperation in sports between the two countries, the decision was made at bilateral meeting, held in china’s hainan province, according to the youth and sports ministry release.

State minister of youth and sports md aminul hoque, currently on an official visit to china, and his chinese counterpart chen tiejun, director general of the department of tourism, culture, radio, television and sports, took part in the meeting also attended by xie jing, vice governor of hainan province and fan weizheng, vice mayor of sanya city.

At the meeting, both sides agreed to expand collaboration in surfing, shooting, volleyball, and table tennis through coach exchanges, technology sharing, and increased scholarships for BKSP students.

The meeting focused on sports diplomacy, with detailed discussions on extending cooperation in surfing, shooting, volleyball, and table tennis.

Both sides agreed on exchanging coaches and technology, increasing scholarship facilities for sports students from bksp and other institutions, and initiating joint training programmes.

Notably, the Chinese side agreed to take a cricket coach from Bangladesh. The development of women’s and para-sports was also a key part of the dialogue.

Officials on both sides also discussed the possibility of signing formal bilateral instruments in the future to institutionalise cooperation and ensure long-term programme continuity.

Speaking after the meeting, Aminul Hoque said the initiative would open new pathways for Bangladeshi athletes.

“This cooperation will help our athletes gain international exposure, modern training methods, and stronger competitive standards,” he said.

The engagement in Hainan is being seen as part of Bangladesh’s broader effort to use sports diplomacy as a tool for international partnership, skills development, and youth empowerment.
