Biman deposits Tk4.67cr profit share to welfare fund

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has handed over Tk4.67 crore to the Workers’ Welfare Foundation Fund, marking the first time in the national flag carrier’s history that it has contributed its profit share to the fund.

Biman sent a cheque for Tk4,67,42,714 to the Director General of the Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Foundation under the Ministry of Labour and Employment on Tuesday.

The payment was made in line with Section 234 of the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, amended in 2013, which requires companies to transfer 10% of 5% of their net profits to the Workers’ Welfare Foundation Fund established under Section 14 of the Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Foundation Act 2006.

A delegation led by Biman Managing Director and CEO Kaizer Sohel Ahmed handed over the cheque to Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury at his office in Dhaka.

The delegation included the lone state aviation company's deputy managing director and DCEO, Director of Finance and several general managers.

The payment relates to Biman’s contribution from the workers’ profit-sharing fund for the 2024-25 financial year.

According to Biman, the contribution was part of its institutional responsibility and reflected its commitment to complying with national laws and regulations.

The national flag carrier also pledged to continue meeting its obligations to the country’s working people through transparent and accountable financial management.

The development comes as Biman seeks to strengthen its financial management and improve institutional governance in line with applicable laws and regulations.
