An estimated 1,000 runners participated in the second edition of the “Beautiful Bangladesh Run 2026” held at Hatirjheel on Saturday morning, promoting fitness and tourism.

The event was organised by the Aviation and Tourism Journalists Forum of Bangladesh and started at 6:00am from Police Plaza point. It featured a 7.5km competitive race and a 2km fun run, with participants from different professions, especially the aviation and tourism sectors.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat attended as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners.

He said the initiative helps increase health awareness and supports the growth of Bangladesh’s tourism sector. He also noted that the government is working to attract foreign investment to develop world-class tourism infrastructure, including discussions with global companies such as Emaar Properties under public-private partnership arrangements.

The event’s title sponsor was Rhythm Group. Deputy Managing Director Abir Hossain said the participation of people of all ages reflects growing awareness of health and fitness, adding that there are plans to expand the event internationally in the future.

ATJFB President Tanzim Anwar said the run has become a flagship event aimed at promoting Bangladesh’s tourism sector. He added that organisers plan to expand it beyond Dhaka, with a similar event planned for the Marine Drive area in Cox’s Bazar next year.

In the 2km race, Mahibur Rahman secured first place in the men’s category, followed by Md Animul Hasan and FA Selim. 

In the women’s category, Nur-e-Saba finished first, followed by Subhana Mahdia Siddiqui and Parvin Mitu.

In the 7.5km race, Md Elahi Sardar won the men’s category, followed by Ashraful Alam and Palash Sheikh. In the women’s category, Hamida Akter Jeba secured first place, followed by Sadia Shawlin Sigma and Teresa Kochi.

Winners received trophies, air tickets to various destinations, and raffle draw prizes at the end of the event.
