Minister orders improved airport services, urgent aircraft maintenance
Civil Aviation Minister closely inspected activities at the cargo terminal and instructed officials to ensure the quick and harassment-free release of goods in line with proper regulations
The government has stepped up efforts to improve service standards at the country’s main airport, with a particular focus on ensuring hassle-free cargo operations and expediting aircraft maintenance.
According to the ministry, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita conducted a surprise inspection at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday to review overall operations and address passenger and cargo service concerns.
During the visit, the minister closely inspected activities at the cargo terminal and instructed officials to ensure the quick and harassment-free release of goods in line with proper regulations.
She emphasised that under the new democratic government, cargo operations would be made fully transparent and free from harassment, warning that a strict “zero tolerance” policy against corruption would be enforced.
Later, the minister visited the hangar complex of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, where she reviewed the status of a technical fault affecting flight BG 202, a Boeing 787-9 aircraft. She directed engineers and relevant officials to complete maintenance of the central hydraulic system as quickly as possible to return the aircraft to service.
The minister also inspected the aircraft’s cabin and cockpit, observing the functionality of various instruments and panels while seeking detailed updates from engineers on repair progress.
Officials said the aircraft had been grounded at Osmani International Airport due to a technical fault in the central hydraulic system isolator. Necessary maintenance work is currently underway to restore the aircraft to operational conditions.
Senior officials, including Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq, along with other high-ranking officials from the aviation authority and Biman, were present during the inspection.
