Milon urges US to simplify student visa process
Education minister calls for easier visa access for Bangladeshi students as Bangladesh and the United States explore deeper cooperation in education, child welfare, healthcare, nutrition, and skills development initiatives
Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has called on the United States to simplify the student visa process for Bangladeshi students seeking higher education opportunities abroad.
He made the request during a meeting with US Special Envoy for Best Future Generations Charles J. Harder at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday, reports BSS. US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen also attended the meeting, along with senior officials from both sides.
The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in education and other social sectors, including child welfare, nutrition, and healthcare.
The US envoy said Washington is working in Bangladesh and globally to address issues such as child marriage, child abuse, and malnutrition. He also expressed interest in expanding support in school meal programmes, child healthcare, and related social initiatives.
The education minister said the government is prioritising quality improvement in education, with special emphasis on technical education and making learning more engaging. He added that initiatives are underway to introduce nationwide mid-day meals, distribute uniforms, expand digital learning, and ensure playground facilities in schools.
He also highlighted plans to appoint sports and agriculture teachers in schools to support students’ overall development, and urged the US to expand training support for improving English language education in Bangladesh.
Both sides expressed optimism that educational and cultural cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States will be further strengthened in the coming years.
