Bangladesh and Japan have held fresh high-level talks to push forward negotiations on the operation and maintenance of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday, signalling renewed momentum toward finalising a long-delayed agreement.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and brought together key policymakers from both countries, reports BSS. Among those present were Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, and State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat.

Senior officials, including the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, and the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, also took part in the discussions.

The Japanese delegation was led by Nakayama Rieko, Assistant Vice Minister at Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Officials said the talks centred on key operational and financial aspects of terminal management, as both sides work to resolve outstanding issues and reach a mutually acceptable framework.

The latest meeting follows an earlier round of discussions on March 13, reflecting continued engagement to bring the nearly completed terminal into full operation.
