Woman dies on Jeddah-Ctg Biman flight

A passenger died after falling ill aboard a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Jeddah to Chattogram on August 26, forcing the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Muscat, Oman, reports local media outlet The Daily Star.

Airport officials said flight BG136 had taken off from Jeddah Airport for Chattogram when the passenger, identified as Sanowara Begum, around 55, from Chattogram, fell ill.

The flight was subsequently diverted to Muscat, where a doctor declared her dead after the aircraft landed, said Engineer Ibrahim Khalil, public relations officer of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport.

After the aircraft landed in Muscat, efforts were made to remove the body from the plane. However, permission from the Royal Oman Police was required under Omani law, delaying the necessary formalities. The process of sending the deceased passenger’s body to Bangladesh through the embassy was under way.

Meanwhile, after the passenger was taken off the aircraft in Muscat, flight BG136 resumed its journey to Chattogram.

The flight landed at Shah Amanat International Airport at around 2:40pm on Wednesday, he added.

According to airport officials, further details could be obtained from the Biman Bangladesh Airlines authorities.
