Dhaka, Male discuss stronger tourism ties
Both sides emphasised strengthening bilateral relations and explored avenues for collaboration in tourism development
Bangladesh and the Maldives have expressed interest in deepening cooperation in the tourism sector, including the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU), during a high-level meeting in Dhaka on Monday.
The discussion took place when High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Bangladesh, Shiuneen Rasheed, paid a courtesy call on Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam at her office at the Secretariat. State Minister M Rasheduzzaman Millat was also present at the meeting.
Both sides emphasised strengthening bilateral relations and explored avenues for collaboration in tourism development. They discussed leveraging the Maldives’ expertise to enhance Bangladesh’s key beach destinations, including Cox’s Bazar and Kuakata.
Officials said the proposed MoU could facilitate knowledge exchange, skills development, infrastructure improvement and joint initiatives in the tourism sector.
The Maldivian envoy reaffirmed her country’s commitment to working closely with Bangladesh and assured continued cooperation with the current government. The meeting was also attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
