Tk1,824.90cr allocated for aviation, tourism in FY27
The increased allocation, compared to the previous fiscal, reflects the government's growing focus on tourism and aviation as emerging drivers of economic growth, investment and employment
The government has proposed an allocation of Tk1,824.90 crore development budget for the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in the FY2026-27 budget, reflecting its growing focus on tourism and aviation as emerging drivers of economic growth, investment and employment.
Finance Adviser Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury announced the allocation while presenting the national budget in Parliament on Thursday.
The proposed allocation is 5.95% higher than the Tk1,722.47 crore allocated for the ministry in FY2025-26, signalling the government's intention to strengthen tourism infrastructure, modernise aviation services and improve connectivity across the country.
According to budget documents, Tk1,211.34 crore of the allocation will come from government resources, while the remainder will be financed through foreign assistance and other sources.
The ministry has planned eight development projects for implementation during FY27, focusing on airport modernisation, tourism infrastructure development, destination connectivity and service quality enhancement.
The allocation comes as the government unveiled a record Tk9.38 lakh crore national budget for FY2026-27, aimed at supporting economic growth, job creation and infrastructure development.
Government officials said tourism and aviation are increasingly being viewed as strategic sectors capable of generating employment, attracting domestic and foreign investment, earning foreign exchange and supporting regional development.
In his budget speech, the finance adviser highlighted the government's commitment to developing eco-tourism and strengthening human resource capacity in the tourism sector to unlock the country's vast tourism potential.
Officials believe improved aviation infrastructure and stronger tourism facilities will help position Bangladesh as a more competitive destination for both domestic and international travellers, while contributing to broader economic diversification and long-term growth.
